STBB Forever 2.0

Hey all,

Some of you may have seen the site going down the past month with a scary message talking about the site being suspended. This is due to our site somehow using resources beyond what our shared hosting plan provides - even after upgrading to business class after the first incident another suspension occurred again this week. I suspect this is due to the outdated/old forum software we're using. I've thought of migrating to a newer platform for some time, now I feel there is no other option but making this change.

I am currently working on moving us to a cloud hosted forum software which should future-proof STBB. While this does come at a much greater expense, it will remove the disruption that's occurred while also ensuring we remain on updated software with professional-level support (I can stop trying to be the IT guy lol). I intend to cover this expense on my own, but I will share a donation link if anyone else wants to contribute to maintaining STBB moving forward - more details will come once we've migrated.

If all things go according to plan, we should have a new site sometime in the next week. I'm trying my best to ensure all the threads, posts, and user accounts make it over - but if that doesn't end up being possible I will ensure there is an archive of the 1.0 board we can look back on. Until we make the switch, I would recommend keeping up with us on Discord and SoundCloud, these are the best locations to check-in on if you see the site going down yet again before we switch.

Personally, I think that if the operating costs are too high, this could be done on a social networking site like X. STBB was originally done on a certain record company's message board that didn't have much functionality.
In the meantime, I'd love to donate, so let me know the link. pay pal ?

Thanks man, that's appreciated! I will put together a small blurb for the donation stuff once we successfully migrate, I don't want to start collecting anything until we've actually made the move

We discussed a bit on if we should make use of Discord or some other type of social media page (reddit/X/whatever) but I think a lot of folks are used to the forum format, it serves as a function we can always look back on, and it also helps better with search engine side of things for folks looking for where we went after STMB. I'm thinking we would only do that type of move if we cannot get a new board going etc.

If anyone else has thoughts on that though would definitely be happy to hear more too.

The migration was successful! I see a ton of the previous site's formatting didn't transfer over.. so that may be a bit of a legacy issue - BUT I think we're good to go moving forward

I will do a much longer post to share more info when I am finished with work today, have about a 12 hour day ahead of me

Edit: Please bear with me as I continue working on the site by the way. Embedding SC and Youtube does work, it just looks like the migrated posts may require an edit before it will display again for some reason.. that may be a 'quirk' of STBB 1.0 historical posts - moving forward though you should be able to throw in a SC link or Youtube link just fine and player will display.

Okay - I lucked out and finally found a plugin that let me bring back all the embeds to every old post, that was the only gripe I had with the transition lol

It's been a long-ass day, I promise I'll put some more time in over the weekend getting things set up here. Will add some more context and also explain the reason for the URL switch as well (don't worry - this is always going to be STBB Forever!)

The old URL will point to this website once I've completed all the migration of pages/etc etc etc.

Also a quick note - if anyone is having trouble logging in or created a new account by accident, I can merge any new account to your previous account and I'm also able to help reset passwords if password reset e-mails are delayed (when I had to use it earlier today, it took like 10 mins before it hit my e-mail)

Will add some more updates soon, peace!

Thanks for all that you do/have done for the community, Christian! I came straight here once getting your email this morning and was able to log right in via my saved login info, so seems to be working smoothly in that regard... Links in email work as well... Also, after being absent for several years, this has gotten me interested in participating again when life allows.

Think I got donations working - tried to donate to myself on PayPal but that doesn't appear to work.. I guess whoever hits it first will be the guinea pig lol

Edit: Blah - so the plugin I was trying to use for donations was abandoned by its developer. Now I've just made a button/page for PayPal directly, I will find a way to recognize those who do contribute now that the cool features are out
