STBB Monthly #002

Sorry for being late had a rough week... i was ready to sit yesterday evening... but then i read that we can extend a bit so i went sleeping first ;)

Been super busy last week but mad props to Joa for giving us a week extension 👍

Just a simple chopped and layered basic drum pattern that will the base template for my melodic sample chops and bassline before the week 4 smash it down, swear at it profusely and rebuild it  . I didn't bother with the percussion bits at this stage until I get the sample chops and bassline down, will no doubt revisit the percussion in the week 4 finalising stage adding where I see fit.

So I've always been terrible trying to play drums, I have no sense of rhythm :(

I ended up using https://drumbit.app/ which is pretty cool - Paid $2 for the premium version -- Pulled my drums from Bar-Kays - Let's Have Some Fun (I'm trying to, but I suck so much  ) -- I dunno if I'll be able to produce anything in the next step, but thought I'd try my hand here after talking to Joa and GD haha

Borrowed part of a pattern I saw and made tweaks with the samples

Edit:

Ok.. I scrolled up and started playing some of the other drum entries -- I swear I didn't hear Psychedelic Schizophrenic's before making mine. I hope it doesn't look like I'm copying, the pattern I was looking at was just one of defaults in the Drumbit app :(

Quick where's my solicitors phone number #copyrightinfringement

Nah it's all cool man I know you weren't trying to copy anything and I'm pretty sure others on here will say the same 8-)
Like I said in my earlier post mine was just a simple hip hop drum pattern, so no doubt it was a default generic option in the Drumbit app that sounded similar. Glad too see you getting busy on this one, hopefully you be able to complete the next steps and finish your flip :)

Haha thanks man

This probably sounds like garbage so I've converted to a non-entry to make myself feel better. I dunno what I would add as bass since this sample actually had a cool bass already, I'm probably way too tired but pumping the bass gives it a sorta RZA feel? lol -- Anyway it's 4:20am and I have a phone call for work at 8, blah. Time for some zzzs, peace

I promise to try doing stuff more seriously once I get my keyboard and some actual DAW vs fiddling around with Audacity like I am now lol

mad Props for doin this in audacity man... i tried lately ... drove me crazy;)
There are some nice free daws out there like tracktion or cakewalk(if you register at bandlab)...
i would even give you a copy of my self developed beatmaking app ... its pretty stable but you would be beta testing ;)
Hope that i will finish it before summer. Will be open source...

Here is my stage 2
Raw and unpolished... under deveopment ... i think thats the idea...
drums got some fx and i removed some hats but basically stage1.

left my original drum beat pretty much untouched with exception of some leveling. constructed chops from melodic sample around that. bass from the sample came along for the ride.

oh nooooooooo.

Joa asked me if I wanted to participate, thought the deadline was the coming sunday though.

I didn't listen to any of your entires yet, cause as said above, did not know "stage 2" was already happening

Well. Can I still join you guys?

here's my drumbeat(s) - three parts played on the same kit.

I doubt anyone has any issue with you joining in this rather than last week. Glad to see you getting involved! 👍

Thanks man! Yeah.. Audacity is great for recording or editing some audio, not so good for trying to make something new haha (Not that this is even what they intend it to be used for!)

That's awesome you're doing a beatmaking app, I'd be interested to take a look at it! I may be getting into some other DAW too once I get a keyboard in the mail, but I want to try out a bunch of different things (The drum sequencer Chrome app I still think is useful, worth the $2 I spent too ha).

Def be sure to share the news when you do finally get it out later this year :)
