STBB Battle Back-Up / Stockpile / Ideas

Hey All, A friend turned me on to this video and i thought this would be a cool idea ( microtonal ). Many producers here already have this sound in spades but I had no clue how to get it. Maybe they use some kinda tape fx or something but i would like to explore it or hear how they get that effect on their chops. Probably been done already but i would like to hear how different producers get it.

Peace, Hugh

some Ideas i had in mind:

- No heavy Snares (just percussion like sounds)
- Tempochanges (1 part of the Beat has to be at least halftime or slower)
- Heavy filtering (No Hi end above 12kHz for example)
- Put a Vocoder, Or some other Modulation like Flanger on your whole Drumtrack (could be done with any other Effect like Delay....)
- Wet week, drain your Tracks in Reverb and Delays Big Time (all tracks need to have some sort of Room, Delay on it - nothing can be dry)
- L/R Variation (for example Drums and Bass need to be Left anything else Right) only Fx Returns are allowed to be on the "other" Side
- Fieldrecording (go out and catch/record some Athmosphere you create your Beat over or around) alternative post an Athmosphere recording everybody has to use
- Uptempo (for example no Entries under 100bpm)
- Dirty/Trash week (Distort, Fk sht up, Bitcrush, use heavy processing - make it as dirty as possible)
- Electronic (Use a 90's Pop/Techno Track as foundation of the Instrumental)
- All Sampleflips must be backwards only additional Bass and drums are allowed
- Cafe del Mar Week

all of these ideas can be matched with eachother

i'm sure i/we can come up with more

Battle Idea:

TAKE TWO AMBIEN
The no drum beat!

Make an ambient beat with no drums! Get those tonal rhythms flowing!
This a hard challenge.
You can do it, if you believe in yourself.

Battle Idea:

HIPHOP FOR YOUR GRANDAD
The Antique store, not the thrift store.

Make beat use only music publish before 1930!
The Internet archive is your friend.

Battle Idea:

VOX HUMANA
shout shout let it all out.

Make beat only use human voice as sample material
For extra kudos, make your own mouth drums!

Battle Idea:

SHOW YOUR DAEMON
release the beast

Make beat with animal sounds included, (vox fauna!), prefering
the voice of your totem animal.
For the top points, make the beat your animal genre, examples: (lion = reggae, wolf/frog=world music, panther=metal, lizard = lounge, Moth =house, beetle= britpop, cockroach =trap, rabbit/mole = roots, dragonfly =techno, snake= dubstep). haha!
Bring out your dark materials!

Battle Idea:

COSMIC HEADFUX
space is the place

Make a beat sample THE THEME MUSIC of a science fiction film or televisions
Take on a voyage
For the all star astronauts, make it cosmic funk!

Battle Idea:

WILD WILD WEST MOTHERF***ERS!
Cow-B-Boys on the dude ranch

Make beat from westerns music! Ennio Morricone and Banjos!
Dolly Partons versus Ry Cooder!
Join the campfire with your harmonica!

Extra portion of beans for those with vox samples like Clint Eastwood, Yul Brynner or Cowboy Beebop!
tumble weed and high plains drifters!

Yo

I had this crazy idea yesterday
Since dudes round here are all about a mix and shit
Why dont we do a mixing battle? No beats, just mix. Get a Marvin Gaye joint with the stems and voui lá just make it sound great.
I mean. That shit would be dope!

Italian Movie Soundtrack Battle

There are so many sweet soundtracks from those old italian movies (Like all that Goblin stuff) - Another one that comes to mind for me is one I picked up on CD recently, this movie was pretty strange... but a killer soundtrack! Tons of stuff to flip on this one. A battle with a selection of soundtracks from Italian movies would be sweet! 👍 👍

Neat trailer Drafthouse Films did for the re-release

Seriously dig Italian 60s, 70s. 80's soundtrack.
Horror yes! great, but also cop movies and westerns!
all great genre shit in italy in this period
and amazing music!

This a Franco Micalizi soundtrack, is great fun!
He have done the curb your enthusiasm music also.

Cool thread ;-)

- Make a dope beat with wack sounds. Lame drum kits and synths

- Make a radio/product commercial song (real existing product or fantasy product) with the structure and length of a normal track 2/3.30 min)

- Use all the provided samples integral, without chopping, editing, inrecognizable mixing, etc.
See what everybody bakes from the same sounds. Use of extra external sounds/samples allowed.

- No melody/tune week. No synths, no piano. Aka Just beat & bass-week.

I was thinking it would be cool to follow the formula of my favorite band The Pixies.it is the the loudQuietloud formula. The samples could be anything but the track must go loud quiet loud.

Hell yeah, Pixies are my favorite band too :)

This would be a fun battle!

Battle-Setting-Idea

let the bass speak week.

build your beat around the bass - try to create a really dope bassline (make it funky, not so much that now popular 808 in you face thing) no other limitations stylewise.

Provided Samples, Drums (including percussion), Bass, Vocalshots, Acapellas and original raps allowed.

keep it under 3 minutes (I'll not count seconds)
