STBB #997 Resample Jamal

The resampling rule is a cool idea! Here's a little behind the scenes to explain what I did

I've started by making a normal chop of the sample (pitched down a few steps)

Then I've layered another part of the sample on top of the previous chop

Then I've resampled (and chopped) all that stuff in reverse adding distortion + chorus and some warping. I've used this for the B section of the beat

..

making a 'synth' or pad by means of micro looping is also a means of resampling .. 2x

sample > chop.. loop it with reverb delay.. > chop a piece out to use ..

anyone else also sometimes use this method ?

think i first did it when it was a rule, like maybe 8 years ago by.. .. maybe it was MUMA ..but i could be making that up..

memory can be bendy 😅

that's dope man ! great result

am i hearing some layering with pads or synths or so ?

coz those were not free of the resampling challenge.. only: -Bass line and drums don't fall under the resampling rule
no, the examples I've posted are using only the sample, didn't use pads in the beat

the only synth I've used is a lead that comes in at around 1:25, damn I forgot about the rule!

resampling to a different format wasn't quite the idea of the challenge.. but i can tell you affected that ish ! 👊

not sure if it adhered to the challenge fully.. tough to tell..
🙃…I had to read the rules again, the glitch sound has some delay-the keyboard stuff was a pad then morphed into a key group during the track somewhere in there.

the resampling you mentioned reminded me of Cool Edit Pro, i use for chopping and some other things..

the Batch file convert has the steps.. 1. Files 2. Resample 3. New Format 4. Destination.

but anyway..seems like you affected enough.. ..point was to chop again after affecting.. that's the shortest i can word the crux at this point 😅

i have a tendency to go with tricky rule sets and/or convoluting the wording..

happy everyone 's having a go at it !

Happy Wednesday fam 👊❤️💪

So I exported my melody tracks then loaded that file into MPC Beats and made additional chops…. Not sure if that was the intent but I really tried playing within the rules… congratulations to the winners circle

Yo

Chopped the main sample, made a couple of 8 Bar loops added a Crunch Modulator Filter
bounced the loops to audio.

chopped the new audio/resample
made two new 8 bar loops.

Delay and SpecGate on the new sample

Added outside drums and bass
added 2 Vocal percussion cuts Pitchdown-12

put the jamal sample !nto ableton to chop !t up. ! use two aud!o tracks !n the arrangement v!ew to cut up the sample onto the new track and then consolidate (command J) to make a new cl!p to copy back !nto the sess!on v!ew, wh!ch allows for exact control over the chops but also makes !t easy to do.
Then ! reversed the sample and chopped !t again !n a d!fferent way and layered !n more of the zulu one. the reversed p!ano sounded l!ke b!rds so ! added some b!rd sounds.
Then used the sample played forward and changed the chops and added reverb !n places to slow down the v!be.
! used that same sect!on to record !t !nto the sp-404. chopped aga!n and played the drums and chops together resampl!ng onto a new pad. Then resampled us!ng effect #12 (compress!on) then resampled aga!n us!ng effect #16 to add the crackle and flux. Then played !t onto a new pad add!ng l!ttle spots w!th effects (l!ke DJ efx).
Then recorded !t back !nto ableton and then chopped !t once more !n ableton for the outro.
Also used the zulu sample for percuss!on (!n the drum rack and as separate aud!o tracks) and some short vocal parts.

Hi STBB gang, here's my submission for this week.

To break it down:
- chopped the original sample, pitched it down to C#minor, ran it through SketchCasette to get a bit of warble to the sample. I then reversed the chop, sequenced it and cut a different part of the sample to preserve some of the original character of the piece. Then for some variety, I ran the chops through a tremolo effect in two different ways, one at a specific frequency to match the pocket of the drums, and the second time at a synced temp of 1/16.

Used outside drums, bass and little effects and background textures to fill out the rest of the experiment for this week.

Take care!

Hello Peeps,
Like my Bro MA didn't have the time to cook something with those interesting rules Joa came up with !
But the sample was so fire, couldn't help myself and made a quick flip this morning.
Hope that I can make time for the next challenge.

Ps: Welcome to my fellow French speaking beat makers, Salut les gars, bienvenue

yoo..
it'd probably be easier to tell what i didn't do with the samples..😅
but def, distorted, reversed, stereo flipped, filtered, layered, reverbed, delayed, time stretched..
and chop chop chopped a buncha times in between.. so resampled 5 times or so !
prob the most notable thing is the chopping at the kick and starting the whole melody anew with kick and the pitching the tone.

dedicated to my son <3 of 22 y/o .. we had an intense week and this track is representative of it.. no spoilers, but it progresses..
have a good one all !
( world ) pz, Joa

ah, yeah.. a fun one was using Portamento between chops of two keys and panned.. and chopping out the swinging part between stereo notes ! :D
