STBB #782 - Dillicious Magic

Hi,
I used sample 1, pitched down the trumpet /horns added just drum and bass
some filtering to bring it to live
used also a different part to bring in some variation
75 bpm

spent an hour tryna make something yesterday, another hour today for random fx.
(1st layer) made a 2 bar loop, with Random chops from Black Magic Women. Samples Time stretched -4, Pitched shifted +7
(2nd Layer) - Under the main melody, theres chops I Filtered out all the mids and highs to make a bass part with the sample
(Low FQ Chops played on 2nd bar of the 2 bar loop)
Another part of the sample, I Filtered out all the mids and lows, Added Reverb, and used it as an Ambient sound that I would play as the beat builds
There's a bass synth from sytrus on the 2nd part of the 2 bar loop
Drums I made a 1/2 bar loop to play everything else over

last minute i seen the rule about the 1st sample, and added a part that plays at the end once
lmao

Put all the sounds in its own channel, linked a mute from all the channels to my midi controller
I Had the 2 bar loop playing everything, while I controlled the mutes, to build the beat
then Added Delays & Reverb, on some of the drops i recorded

hope it doesn't sound like complete gibberish

Used the Ray sample Challenged myself to spend less time than usual and limit my options.
1. Used capture feature in Ableton to get a drum loop
2. Chopped the sample to get the chord structure
3. played a bassline
4. tweaked the ghost notes in the drums
5. Very minimal eq and effects

Hey ya'll
Looking forward to sharing my thoughts on peoples tracks.. here's my offering in the meantime

I tried to use as much as I could from the samples including all the melodic/harmonic stuff + the snare from the Burt Bacharach tune

Feeling like my tracks lately have had too much hi-end/ scooped low mids + over limited making 'em sound brittle or crunchy

Tried A different approach with my mixing/mastering chain.. I hope it sounds better.. Let me know what you think.. if you have Ideas where I could do better mixwise- let me know!

peace & love,
D.B.

No synth/vst stuff except for the bassline.
Used an open guitar note from Santana for playing melodies on my keyboard.

thanks for inviting me on the jam Julian <3
already wanted to say this so you guys don't have to, my rhymes are rushed, messy and some parts a little intelligeble..
had to make due with my initial rough draft and record some parts at night having and be sorta quiet for the neigbors.
hope you enjoy regardless..
