STBB #685

Woop woop guys, hello again. I made this in Ableton Live Lite that has no 8-band EQ, thus I struggled with the EQ'ing. Anyone knows about a great free 8-band EQ vst?

Looking forward to hearing all the submissions. Peace!

Recorded this live from my 404, and stuck to the STBB and Roland rules. In keeping with the spirit of the thing I did everything on the SP. I had a blast making this, because the SP workflow is so good for just running with ideas.

Edit
Here's my 404 video submission for the Roland throwdown. This version of the song is actually somewhat different, I followed the same structure as the version above, but tried some other variations with the FX.

Hey All, I didn't get it to work as an abrupt quiet/loud change like I was thinking of for the idea for rules but it starts quiet and builds to louder and back quiet. Hope all are well.

Peace, Hugh

TDR Nova. it's not 8-band but it's more flexible than EQ Three or Channel EQ. Have you tried just using multiple instances of EQ Three?

Beat is built from sample007 out of the uptempo-samples folder + drums + 808 + a few synth elements. Also there is Joa with two parts and as a surprise guest yours truly on the mic as well. ;)

hope you enjoy!

Well I still don't have wifi at my new place, upload via smartphone takes a looooong time, so I have time to write some random stuff...
Had actually 3 different beat approaches for this week, decided to keep the last, the 2nd serves as kind of an independent grimy intro now. The main part had written freddie gibbs all over it (at least that's how I feel it), but this time I wanted to keep it acapella free.......there is a version with an acapella ready though :)
The SP samples are pretty great, but were almost too easy, as you could've chopped any parts or even let them play out as a loop and it sounded really amazing. Some Griselda vibe for sure too. So easy that it was hard to really flip it...if that makes sense. Did something that I rarely do, and pitched 1 or 2 chops differently than the rest (the old shook ones trick) to create some interesting harmonies. Added some different samples here and there for a bridge part, and as additional sounds. Think the main part was something from donut samples.

Fun fact, there is a remix challenge going on right here on this site, and there is an acapella of smells like...you know the track, and I did some reading upon it. Kurt Cobain said, he was basically copying the pixies for that, particularly mentioning the quiet / loud / quiet part. Crazy connection right there. I had some trouble going with the Rock quiet verse hard refrain scheme for a beat, but I did play a lot with dynamics and have quieter and louder parts in it. Hope that's sufficient.

I think the SP beat tape challenge is pretty interesting, but as many others I don't have an SP :( I'd be happy to collab on anything for that though.
Did some cheap fake ass SP effects at some points, just for the heck of it.

And nooow the bottle of wine is empty and the beat is uploaded:

cheerz to y'all
