STBB #675 - Deal with Dilla style

Hi all! Actually found out about this through Reddit so I'm new here.

Was more than happy to make an entry to this contest! These samples and drum hits are too 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥

Hope ya'll enjoy :)

Non-Entry as I broke the rules and used some acapellas

For the hook, I sampled parts of 2 classic hip-hop tracks which were originally produced by Dilla. I used parts of A Tribe Called Quest - 1nce Again, and De La Soul - Stakes is High.

I also used an acapella of another classic Dilla-produced track, Pharcyde - Runnin'. I used 2 verses and the chorus, so effectively it's a Runnin' remix, with various other bits thrown-in in between. Such as small samples taken from interviews from various artist talking about Dilla. The likes of Busta Rhymes, Kanye West and Erykah Badu. Also sampled parts from a J Dilla interview at the end of the track/medley.

For the music I only sampled 'tape 6' from Bleep's sample pack. Thanks for that man! Used outside drums, but every other sound was formed from the tape 6 sample, including the bass.

Hope you enjoy. I didn't intend to make such a long track, it just ended up that way. Although not quite in Yoni Den territory 🎺
Looking forward to hearing what everyone brings this week!

How we all doing people?

I Cooked up another little jam this afternoon, same sort of thing, Couple of loops and chops, :)
I messed around with the same samples, but wanted to try something different with the drums. 😉
multiple compressors. doing small things rather than one working a lot. Something I watched in a tutorial. :hmm:

Had no freakin time until this early evening...but how could I miss this round. Did all of this in a one-take manner. Lock me in with those samples and give me a week off, I wanna do so much more right now!

Hey All, Congrats Bleep and thanks for the samples. I think I will have to return to those samples in the future if I have any sense but that is debatable (me having sense that is). Saluting one of the greatest this week. I have no aspirations of sounding like Dilla because that would be hopeless for me quantized or not. I do aspire to always be creating like he was famously known to do. Creating and evolving is where it is at. I am always excited to see what I can do with the samples and rules each week. I also think the rules are where it is at so go for it beat battle champs and make us all stretch.

Peace, Hugh
