STBB #620

STBB #620

STBB #619's winner FatVonFree is busy travelling today so Joa and I have stepped in to devise, host and post this week's battle.

The theme is psychedelic dystopia, and the core challenge is to flip the provided sample to achieve that. The record is in a major key and not on that vibe at all so let's get creative!

Wowza. Loving my 620 track!

My best track yet IMO. 8-)

The trailer was gold for repiecing together female narrative vocals to use in conjunction with the male vocals from the record.

Here's the lyrics:
------------------------------
[Laugh]
Let's start from the beginning.
It's beautiful.
Check this out.
And I'll....
Please...
We have to go back.
But sometimes...
Please...
There's something else.
What do you think I do when you're away?
Staaaand by me...
It's beautiful.
It's not destroying.
It's making something new.
If you want....
To see.....
We have to go back.
But sometimes...
Please....
There's something else.
Yeaahhh...
We have to go back.
I can't go back.
Staaaand by meeeeee.....
Like I'm stuck in a continuous rotation.
Ahhhh...
Nothing comes back.
What do you think I'm doing when you're away?
Do you think I'm, out in the garden, pining, looking at the sky?
[People laughing]

----------------------
It's like a conversation between a women and a man, the latter who's voice is totally whacked out and druggy, and the women is basically breaking up with him and he's begging her not to.

The bassline is from my Arturia Matrixbrute, pads from the DeepMind 12 and Nord Lead A1, and an arpy FX part from the A1 as well.

'Psychedelic dystopia' is my perfect vibe tbh, but flipping the major key sample was a real challenge.

Indeed everything I played in it is in F, so that's a first! I'd never usually dream of making a track in a major key.

Usually dystopian vibes would be all about minor key pieces, but I've made this work. A happy trippy dystopia? :acid:

I used lots of Annihilation clips and only a bit of the other sample. The rhymes are in the description they're about the movie, I really like the movie so it wasnt to hard to get the inspiration.

Hey people what's good?
Some interesting rules this week, worked on my track this afternoon.
I did some research on mixing and limiters. Hope it makes a difference.
I chopped up the samples a bit different this week, not the normal loop approach, added some drums filters on the sample tracks and even some bass?!?!

I re uploaded my entry this week as it was still sounding weak.

Peace.

Congrats to FatVonFree on winning the last round. Hopefully I got the theme right this week, wasn't it get off your tits on acid and make something? :D

No outside sample used apart from the drums, was all chopped and smashed together on the MPC 2500 then exported to reaper and added a little reverb and overdrive FXs too it

Did not have much time, its exams-time!

Tried to somehow draw sound-"picture" of a dystopic future, in which everething kind of seems allright, but it isn't. a bit like in wall-e (bad reference :P )
