Dark side/light side - 2 for 1

giphy.gif

Thanks so much for the likes, listens and comments last week - I truly appreciate it all.

Make two flips. Make one dark af - moody, nasty, dirty, you know the score. Let's call this the dark side - a beat which encapsulates all the fears and anxieties you, or anyone else, might have about the world we live in right now. Fill that dark energy into your beat and burn it...

Make another flip. Call this the light side. Make this as smooth, light and comforting as you can. Let this one reflect any hopes and positivity you might have for 2019.

Use one or more of the samples below

Other rules

  • 4 minute time limit
  • No outside full acapellas
  • No outside melodic samples
  • Everything else ok

Happy beatmaking, and have a great 2019!

Congrats on the win Elan, look forward to checking out the samples. I got a busy week ahead but hopefully I might get time to knocked something together... Roll on the New Year when I can get back on these more regularly as I miss not entering these

I've been wanting to make a track with multiple complimenting different tracks in it for while, so this was a great first attempt.

I have my light part with it's 90's bumpin hip hop groove and happy little bell runs etc, then I change to a totally different beat, then build on that to make it really crazy, along with some aggressive distorted string chops and pitched down vocal one shots.

I admit I could have gone much more extreme with each, but I like that i've made it so it still sounds like one cohesive track.

I used several different samples from 'Tu Tu Hai Wahi' and 'Ugo Calise - Occhi Di Mare'
- I threw in some vocal samples from The Sopranos to help with the narrative

As for the rules, the track begins with some dark thoughts and then builds towards a more positive vibe

Happy New Year!

Nah bruv it's all good :)

As you long as you have two contrasting dark side and and light side beats, you've followed the rules. Either order is totally fine

Looking forward to hearing your beatssss!

Quick Question:

Are we to make 2 tracks, Can we make 1 with a light and dark side/blend, or may we do one or the other? IN other words, can we opt to make 1 that blends from dark to light (or reverse) or must there be 2 seperate tracks? Can there be a choice between the two options i've presented above? I know its a few days in... the thought just came to mind....
Hope that made sense....

NEVERMIND
- looked at rules again... 2 tracks... yes? yes! Happy New Years Everyone! See ya on the flipside :D ;) :D

Nice challenge, Elan.

I went with pitched down, shifty depression-thought like sounds for the dark side. Then through a longish, quite jazzy break evolved it to a light side that sounds like busy summer nights. All with a lofi sound. The rules got me out of my comfort zone and I like it.

Hope you guys can relate and enjoy. The flips that were post already are quality again. There's gonna be good stuff on here in 2019.

Peace
