I recently posted a track by ASURA in the what are u listening section and got me thinking about the old spot. Low End Theory. And I guess I can understand some of you never had the opportunity to go or may now know much about the place but I think the LA beat scene went hand in hand with stones throw / brain feeder labels and revisiting beats from the day had me realizing that the music hold up, its v good. Artists like Jonwayne Dibiase Lorn Matthew David Tokimonsta Samiyam Nocando Daedelus, Teebs, the resident djs , people like bus driver and 2mex appearances from Badu madlib oneohtrix Tyler Thom York. The list goes on and on. Jeremiah Jae. Thundercat. RAS G. ----- Gathering at the most comfortable chill spot that felt like home, knowing you were surrounded by a level of genius and all of us just hoping we could catch the next set from SPECIAL GUEST.

When Matthew David came to Japan, I went to see him, listened to him DJ, and we chatted a bit over drinks. He was collaborating or something with the Japanese beatmaker Fumitake Tamura (BUN). I’d helped out with Tamura’s work before, and since we were close, I went to that event.
It brings back memories. I brought a beat tape I’d made myself and gave it to him, and I was happy that he actually accepted it. Of course, I’ve been heavily influenced by his music as well. The Tokyo beat scene was all abuzz with talk of them.
