Flip Da Script Battle

Big up to Yoniden and Granny David for holding down the side battles here, I thought it’s about time I got involved in doing something so ladies and gentlemen I present to you:

Flip Da Script Battle

A pretty simple and fun concept for this side battle, all you need to is take your favourite Hip-Hop beat from your favourite Hip-Hop producer and flip it into something new just using the same samples that they used on the original.

For example if I choose to flip Pete Rock & CL Smooth track "The Basement" then I would have to use at least one chop or more from the following:

Bam Bam by Sister Nancy
Expo '83 by The Backyard Heavies
Season of the Witch by Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper and Stephen Stills
Mad Dog by Lee Michaels
Risin' to the Top by Keni Burke

Rules

  • No outside samples to be use (apart from drums or bassline if not listed on the original)
  • Must use at least one chop or more from each of the original samples of your chosen track
  • Scratching allowed
  • Tracks can either be a complete remix with acapella or just an instrumental remix flip
  • Maximum 2 entries per head
  • Collaborations allowed

Include Flip Da Script Battle or FDSB abbreviation in your song title and post it here by Saturday 30th of March 2019 11.59pm Pacific time. Any question about the rules etc then don't hesitate to ask...........Now Get Digging!

Non-Entry - I made this a few weeks ago but thought I'd share it here as it meets the rules. I sampled 'Heather' by Billy Cobham, same as the original Souls of Mischief version

I'll be remixing a song by ATCQ for my real entry :weed:

Question: Do you need to use the same vocals as the track you're remixing? Ex: I use something Madlib made for Doom.... Do I use the Doom vocals with my new instrumental? Or I use something from one of The Alchemist's instrumental albums... can I add vocals? Sorry, just a little more specific please and thank you in advance

Thanks,
Betty!

I flipped A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation

I couldn't find the acapella so I just made a short instrumental

I sampled the same 3 songs as they did for the original and I reconstructed the track from scratch, using the same samples as the original but changed them up. The main change is the new bass I've given it, along with sampling a different part of the main riff. It has got the same melody in it as Tribe's, but it's been re-something'd or other.....It just has a different vibe to it, I feel.

Samples:
Drums by Brethren
Main samples from Ronnie Foster - Mystic Brew
Also a small sample from Ramsey Lewis - Dreams

Additional sample from ATCQ Electric Relaxation - Some vocals from the chorus added in the background in parts

Hope you enjoy

Really dope flip GD.

Non-Entry
Though I would also share a flip of a track that I made nearly a year ago, hopefully it will inspire someone . I flipped Bahamadia "Spontaneity" produced by the Da Beatminerz on the MPC 2000.... Only outside sample use was the bassline..... Here's the original

Here's the MPC Remix

No worries Betty the answer to your questions are: Yes you need to use the same acapella and same samples to the relevant track your remixing but you can sample different parts of the sample tracks to create your flip. (Using an acapella is an optional extra so don't feel like you need to ) and if you was to flip an Alchemist instrumental then you couldn't add vocals to it that weren't on the original instrumental track.

Outkast - JazzyBelle

samples i had to use:

Lamont Dozier - Pelude & Rose (melodic sample)
CB#5 by Ralph Vargas and Carlos Bess from Funky Drummer Vol. 1 (drum sample)

wow.. took me a couple of hours to figure out and ( sorta ) duplicate what Pete Rock did with that loop there.
it ain't just that little piece of the track by Ahmad Jamal.
this is the first time I've ever tried to recreate a track.
I realise it's allowed to just make a remix with the same samples.. but I wanna try and catch the essence..

cool Psych!

I hope this isn't classed as spam, but I threw together another 93 til infinity remix. I didn't sample the same song this time, went for some Isaac Hayes instead

This is neither an entry or a non-entry, I just wanted to share it with fans of the original ☮️

Amazing challenge. I'm gonna go for "the people" Common ft Dwele produced by Kanye.

Sample list here.. .

Great challenge, I fully expect to make a real mess of something beautiful.

wow bro!.... need a manual to make that track..
curious to hear the result!

Well, my disclaimer clearly said I'll likely make a mess of something beautiful.

One of my favourite tracks though, the sample list is great and I'm sure it will be interesting.

Not even started yet. Maybe make a start tomorrow night.
