Greetings fellow earthlings! Welcome to STBB #742

This weeks theme is titled: Block Party

If you don't know, Block Parties were huge festivities thrown in cities back in the day. A block or sector of city would be closed off from traffic and citizens would gather with music, food and energy to celebrate the community. I'm sure different parts of the world has different terms for it.

I'm old school so forgive me if this post is a bit minimalistic.

Attached is a link providing a folder which contains samples I chopped from records in one day.

Outside Drums, VST Instruments and Bass are welcomed. Just keep the essence of the beat within the "Thrifty Chops" sample folder.

*Feel Free to keep all chops provided for personal projects.*

Fine Print Bonus Points to anyone who can slap a block party type acapella on the beat.

Congrats on the win!

A whole lotta samples right there! Should take some time just checking them out!

Not sure if this is a Non-Entry as its not really a party track, more of a wind down beat..

Block Party entails all modalities. There has to eventually be a wind down phase to a party so chill tracks have their place also.

Congrats Swoop-Man
Great sample collection. Sample Librarian!

Added drums (samples from an old STBB) to one of your samples - and a little south park.

Hey' yall

First off, I love this challenge! I'm a big nerd about early hip hop history, in which block parties have played a huge role.

when I was coming up in the game I played quite a few outdoor parties and I have very vivid memories of the sights, sounds and smells of those events.

In my track I've tried to capture the sound and vibe of those memories. I wanted to give a sense of the ambience (-the sound of music from across the street, the echo off the concrete, the whoompiness of the bass) without making it too lo-fi.. so I hope my mix does the trick (If not I'll probably update it b4 the deadline)

In case anyone's interested I used 110th st for the bass, nautlius for ambience and various other bits from the samples to fill it out.
For vocals I took some furious 5 from the death mix and an acapella from 2 live crew for the chorus (miami bass had a huge block party scene- luke skyywalker started out as a mobile jock)

for fun there's a cameo from q-tip talking about his days as a kid going to parties in NYC.

Thanks again to the Swoop-Man! for the challenge and the samples and thanks to everyone who listens or makes beats for these contests for helping to keep the craft alive and relevent...

Peace!

Hey All, Congrats and great rules(Samples are superb!) I grew up with the grass between my toes so I don't know much about blocks but the neighbors did have parties in the street every year. That's where I had my first taste of beer. I was not impressed. Hope all are well.

Peace, Hugh

What's good peps?

Cool rules and HUGE selection of samples this week!

Some real nice stuff to play with.

Mashed up something together tonight.

Good luck people should be a good week.

Hi fellas, tomorrow I'll finally be on a long awaited vacation trip. Had to stop by for one last submision. I gotta be honest, I was sceptical reading about those premade chops. But boy, I loved this!! Haven't felt this creative in a minute. I put in a trillion samples at least. Didn't turn out to be much of a block party track, maybe so if you take a break from the heavy party area, and go to the chillout area for a minute to catch your breath...that's more where it's at.
Anyhows.....

Hi everyone!

My block party is taking place in the late 90ies in Brighton when Big Beat was the hottest stuff around... I used 4 of the provided samples: Drug Song , Slap the tempo, Enya and the Cuba Percussion. Plus one of last weeks samples, because I didnt find the time last week to get something more out than an 8 bar loop... Outside drums and basses...

I don't know if I'm hitting the theme with this, but somehow Kool G Rap popped right into my head. So sample flipped, Acapella picked and off we go. Danceable and hard at the same time: Ghetto Party.
